Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua says that security agents in unmarked vehicles have been trailing him everywhere he goes.
In an update on Wednesday, November 20, he also alleged that the agents have been taking notes of visitors who visit his residence.
“Security agents in unmarked cars have been following me wherever I go. They are parking at the entrance of my Nairobi residence, taking note of all my visitors, and they trail me whenever I leave the house, even all the way to my rural home in Nyeri,” he claimed.
Gachagua shared a photo of a vehicle that has been trailing him, stating that it had been fitted with a number place belonging to a lorry despite it being a saloon car.
“Last Sunday, the below saloon car that was parked at the entrance to my residence trailed me to PCEA Kerarapon Church, followed me to where I went for a late lunch and back to the house! Upon checking the NTSA portal, I noticed that the number plates are registered to a lorry,” he added.
Gachagua noted it was important to share his predicament, adding that the government should be held accountable should any of the security agents harm him.
“This surveillance and intimidation of Kenyans was last witnessed during the era of the dreaded ‘Special Branch’ during the 24 years of Moi’s misrule. In this era of extrajudicial killings, forced abductions, and disappearances by state agents, I have thought it important to share with Kenyans the harassment and intimidation I am going through and inform them to hold the state responsible if I am harmed by state agents. I request the state to leave me alone! You hounded me out of office, and you should now allow me to enjoy my peace as a private citizen,” Gachagua stated.

This comes barely two weeks after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) refuted claims that it tried to block former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from attending a church function at Kahawa West in Nairobi County.
Bishop JJ Gitahi claimed that the State had attempted to block Gachagua from attending the service at Priesthood Fellowship Church on grounds that it would amount to incitement.
However, in a statement on Tuesday, November 12, DCI denied the allegations claiming that they operate within the law.
“We want to clarify that these allegations are entirely false and seem to be aimed at misrepresenting the actions and intentions of the DCI. The DCI operates within the parameters established by the rule of law and has consistently affirmed its commitment to refraining from interference in the liberties of individuals and institutions,” the agency said.
