Details of note that as found inside Moi's bible

Former President Daniel Arap Moi passed away in 2020, but his 24-year legacy at the helm of Kenyan leadership remains deeply etched in the nation’s history

Former President Daniel Arap Moi passed away in 2020, but his 24-year legacy at the helm of Kenyan leadership remains deeply etched in the nation’s history.

Following his passing, many previously unknown facts about him came to light, including his profound connection to the Christian faith.

In his Bible, a piece of paper that had been tucked between the pages for nearly two decades was discovered.

The note, which had been transferred from one of his older Bibles to a newer one, carried a poignant message that the former President may have lived by.

“Step by step, step by step I will follow Jesus, every day all the way, I will follow Jesus,” read the note, reflecting words inspired by Genesis 28:17.

Titled Gate of Heaven, the note was written during a church service at the Kabarak Chapel on May 8, 2005.

In addition to the verse, Moi added personal reflections from 2 Timothy 3:10, titled The Joy of Knowing Christ.

Moi kept the note in his Bible for nearly two decades until his demise in 2020.

On February 4, 2020, then-President Uhuru Kenyatta announced Moi’s death, marking the end of an era.

“It is with profound sadness and sorrow that I announce the passing of a great African statesman, H.E. Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, the second President of the Republic of Kenya,” the announcement read.

Although his 1978–2002 regime is often regarded as authoritarian, he was mourned as a President who highly valued education and environmental conservation.

He is also remembered for maintaining the country’s relative stability during times of conflict in neighbouring nations.
