The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has refuted claims by Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah that a Subaru vehicle from the directorate was used in the abduction of popular X influencer Gideon Kibet.

In a statement on Thursday, December 26, DCI noted that the claims by Omtatah were unfounded and that the matter was under investigation.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) takes note of the statement made by Senator Okiya Omtatah Okoiti regarding the reported sighting of a white Subaru vehicle linked to the alleged abduction of Mr. Gideon Kibet. We wish to emphasize that these allegations are being taken with utmost seriousness.

“Firstly, we wish to clarify that the DCI categorically denies any association with the vehicle in question. The suggestion that a vehicle belonging to the DCI was involved in any alleged abduction is not only unfounded but also sensationalizes a sensitive issue that is currently under thorough investigation,” DCI remarked.

The Directorate further emphasized that all police operations are conducted strictly within the confines of the law, assuring the public that no extrajudicial actions will be tolerated within its ranks.

At the same time, DCI disclosed that it has received reports of abductions and that it is currently investigating the matters.

“We have received reports of alleged abductions, and the DCI is diligently working to investigate these claims. We urge any individuals with credible information on these matters to come forward and cooperate with our independent investigations. The DCI remains open and transparent in handling such cases, ensuring that justice is pursued without prejudice or compromise,” DCI stated.

It added, “The integrity of our investigations is paramount, and we take any attempts to undermine this process seriously. The DCI is fully committed to expediting these investigations, and we urge public leaders to refrain from making speculative statements that may hinder the progress of ongoing investigations.”

The statement came after Omtatah claimed that Kibet was abducted after leaving the lawmaker’s office in Nairobi.

“I believe he was abducted by DCI officers, as soon as he arrived at my office my security detail told me they were monitoring a Subaru which was mounted with spy gadgets used to intercept communications. It was parked across the road from my office. It stayed at that location and left after Mr. Kibet left,” Omtatah told the press.

Meanwhile, the National Police Service (NPS) has distanced itself from the recent reports of abductions.

In a statement on December 26, Inspector General Police Douglas Kanja noted that no police station was holding any of the reported abductees.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the National Police Service is not involved in any abduction, and there is no police station in the country that is holding the reported abductees,” Kanja explained.
