National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has stirred debate within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after taking a jab at the party’s secretary-general, Edwin Sifuna.
John Mbadi dismissed Sifuna’s authority in ODM, recalling how he swiftly unseated former secretary-general Ababu Namwamba.
“You’re still claiming that Sifuna is telling you he owns ODM? Gladys, listen, go and tell Sifuna that the seat he holds—I chased down Ababu and took it from him in just one hour. Him too, we will chase him out,” Mbadi declared, signalling potential tensions within the party.
The remarks come at a time when ODM is grappling with significant internal shifts following the formation of a broad-based government.
Several ODM MPs have aligned themselves with the Kenya Kwanza administration, raising concerns about the party’s cohesion and survival.
