Ruto forced to intervene after residents heckle MP during Tharaka Nithi tour

President William Ruto was forced to intervene after Tharaka Nithi Women Representative Susan Ngugi was heckled while making her speech in Chuka Town.

Ruto, who was touring the county on Friday, April 4, had invited the county MP to make her remarks.

However, when she started speaking, a section of the crowd began to heckle her, forcing her to cut her speech short. Others were also filmed waxing their hands in detest.

Afterwards, Ruto called on the residents to go easy on the MP.

“Surely, you people, this is a lady. Don’t make too much noise for her,” he pleaded.

The cause of the heckling is yet to be known. However, this is the second day where there have been cases of heckling in the President’s tour in Mt Kenya.

On Thursday, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah and his Laikipia East counterpart, Mwangi Kiunjuri, were heckled while addressing various stop-over meetings in Nyandarua County.

Nyandarua Women Representative Faith Gitau, who is a close Ruto ally, was also heckled.

“Let me tell you. No one can shout me down. I cannot be intimidated,” Ichung’wah stated after the crowd began to heckle him at Ol Kalou Town.

Meanwhile, during the President’s engagement in Tharaka Nithi, area leaders called on Ruto to settle on DP Kithure Kindiki as his 2027 running mate.

The leaders hinted at pushing Kindiki – who is a resident of the county – for the presidency in 2032.

“We will support you until 2032. Thereafter, we shall come to you and ask you what is next for our son (Kindiki),” Governor Muthomi Njuki stated.
