Police are investigating the suspected suicide of a 20-year-old Maseno University student found dead in his Kisumu residence on April 2, 2025.
The first-year student is believed to have died by suicide after hanging himself with a sisal rope tied around his neck from one of the roof rafters inside his rented house.
His body was discovered hours later.
A suicide note found at the scene is being analysed by authorities to determine if it was written by the student.
The body was taken to the mortuary, and a postmortem examination is scheduled.

In another incident in Mtito Andei, Makueni, 57-year-old Muthoka Ndunda was found dead after hanging himself with a sisal rope from a tree in a thicket. No suicide note was recovered, and the motive remains unclear.
In Gachoka, Embu County, 24-year-old Kelvin Macharia Njeru died by suicide, also by hanging himself with a sisal rope tied to a roof rafter in his home.
The motive for his death has yet to be determined, and his body has been taken to Embu Level Five Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Police have expressed concern over the rising number of suicide cases, noting that up to two cases are reported daily.
According to the World Health Organization, contributing factors to suicide include joblessness, death, academic pressures, legal issues, financial troubles, bullying, history of previous suicide attempts, family history of suicide, substance abuse, and mental health disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder.
