Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has shared a heartfelt message of solidarity with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro following public criticism over his absence during the crucial vote on the Finance Bill 2026/2027.

In a strongly worded statement, Kuria accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of orchestrating what he described as Nyoro’s political tribulations, linking them to the ongoing struggle for political supremacy in the Mt Kenya region.

“To my brother Ndindi Nyoro, now the self-righteous cult has come with their daggers drawn for you. They say you let them down on the Finance Bill. They now want to extinguish your political career,” Kuria wrote.

He went on to claim that he had previously warned Nyoro that Gachagua, now the leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), would not rest until all other emerging political leaders in the region had been sidelined.

Drawing from Kenya’s political history, Kuria argued that regions often struggle to produce new leaders after the exit of dominant political figures. He cited the Kisii region, which he said has struggled to find a leader of the stature of the late Simeon Nyachae, and the Luo region, which he claimed is preparing for a future beyond former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s political dominance.

Despite what appears to be a divergence in their current political positions, Kuria expressed admiration for Nyoro’s leadership qualities, saying he had recognized his potential long before many others.

“Keep the focus, my brother. I have held your hand since 2017 because I could see what the nation came to see much later,” Kuria stated.

The former CS also used the opportunity to highlight what he termed a historical leadership imbalance within the Mt Kenya region, noting that Murang’a County has not produced a president despite Kiambu and Nyeri counties having produced all three presidents associated with the region.

“My brother, you have, God willing, many years of leadership ahead of you. Keep your focus and one day you will finish the journey that the brave Matiba did not finish but General Kiguoya Kibaki accomplished. Kiambu, we did it twice. Nyeri once. Murang’a has waited for too long to exhale,” Kuria wrote.

He concluded his message with a veiled swipe at some leaders in the region, stating:

“There is more to leadership than growing a beard and saying ‘Wewe Kasongo’.”
