Nakuru morgue on the spot for exploiting grieving families

A morgue facility in Nakuru town has come under public scrutiny following allegations of exploiting grieving families.

One affected family has accused PNN Workshop and Services Limited of imposing excessive charges for the overnight storage of their loved one’s body.

According to the family, the facility demanded a total of Ksh.35,000, which included a Ksh.10,000 transportation fee from the hospital to the morgue.

“The lady at the reception tells us to pay Ksh.25,000. I ask, ‘What do you mean Ksh.25,000? The package is for one week, and the overnight charge is Ksh.10,000.’ I decided we are going to move him, and I’m paying for the overnight charges. They said that Ksh.10,000 is for those in transit and going for burial,” Vivian Kibue lamented.

The family of the late Mike Kibue Bweri claims they were charged Ksh.35,000 despite the facility’s posted rate of Ksh.10,000 per night.

This amount reportedly included a Ksh.10,000 transportation fee from a nearby hospital, which the family says the funeral home had initially waived.

According to the family, the situation took a turn after they opted to hire hearse services from a competing facility. They believe the inflated charges were a form of a fine for choosing an external service provider.

After airing their grievances on social media, the family’s experience resonated with others, who came forward with similar allegations against the same facility.

Efforts to get a response from the management of PNN Workshop and Services Limited were unsuccessful.

Our calls were abruptly disconnected, text messages went unanswered, and a formal letter hand-delivered to their Nakuru offices has yet to receive any acknowledgment.
