Autopsy reveals man abducted in Eldoret was tortured before being thrown into river

A postmortem has revealed that a 22-year-old man who was abducted by goons in Eldoret was tortured then thrown into a river while still alive.
A postmortem has revealed that a 22-year-old man who was abducted by goons in Eldoret was tortured then thrown into a river while still alive.
The body was retrieved from River Sosian on the outskirts of Eldoret city after he went missing during protests by residents of Kipkaren estate about two weeks ago.
An autopsy done at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) revealed that the body had multiple injuries caused by assault and torture.
MTRH resident pathologist Dr Benson Macharia said despite his death resulting from drowning, he had already incurred multiple injuries on his body before dying in the river.
“It appears the deceased sustained multiple injuries on the head, lower limbs and upper limbs but on top of that we have established that what actually killed him was drowning. That means that he was alive and wiith injuries by the time he was thrown in the river,” Dr Macharia said.
His findings were echoed by Dr Walter Nalianya, a private pathologist from Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU), who represented the family of the deceased and other interested parties during the exercise.
Dr Nalianya noted that despite the cause of the death being drowning, there was a third party involved in the death.
“I agree with everything that Dr Macharia has said and what I need to emphasise is that definitely the cause of death was drowning but there was a third party involved,” Dr Nalianya said.
He affirmed that before the death, there was an apparent struggle between the deceased and his abductors.
“That is because the deceases had marks of defensive injuries on his hands,” he said.
The deceased, Samuel Ngoko, was allegedly assaulted and abducted by suspected goons from Kipkaren estate who then threw him into river Sosian seemingly to cover up the crime.
His family and human rights crusaders are demanding for justice.
The activists who accompanied the family at the morgue raised alarm over allegations of an organised terror gang within Kipkaren estate that has been terrorising residents in the area.
They alleged that the gang enjoys protection from some leaders from the area.
Fredrick Ojiro from Vocal Africa reprimanded detectives and security agents from Uasin Gishu for dilly-dallying in cracking down on the said gang.
Ojiro gave police seven days to arrest the suspects and arraign them failing which he said human right activists would enforce citizen arrests.
He said the killers of Samuel were seen assaulting him in broad daylight before bundling him in a Probox car.
“The killers of Samuel are well known people who were seen assaulting him and putting him in a Probox and we want to ask police to quickly investigate activities of a killer gang that is operating in Kipkaren estate and Eldoret city while enjoying protection from certain politicians from Uasin Gishu,” Ojiro said.

He alleged that witnesses who witnessed the incident are already being threatened by members of the suspected criminal gang.
Ojiro called on Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi to investigate activities of the gang, alleging that the it is working in cohort with certain rogue police officers.
“We are calling upon Mwanthi to speed up investigations into this incident as we implore Ipoa to prevail upon the rogue officers working with goons in Eldoret,” Ojiro said.
Kimutai Kirui from Centre Against Torture in Eldoret claimed that for long time, residents of Kipkaren area have been living in fear due to existing goons and cartels of land grabbers in the area.
“Criminal activities in Kipkaren are emanating from rampant land grabbing in Kipkaren. As we speak now, the same goons are threatening the family of Samuel not to bury him in their land in the area, this is dangerous and the government must wake up and prevail against this goon,” Kirui said.
Samuel’s family echoed the sentiments as they expressed fear following the incident.
“We are extremely shocked with this incident; as a family we are living in fear as a result of this because we know our son was killed and his body was later thrown in the river by well known goons,” said Naftali Ngoko, an uncle to the deceased.
Ngoko claimed that Samuel was killed to cover up another recent killing incident in the area by the same goons.
“Our son was killed after he witnessed the killing of a trader in this estate. His killing was premeditated to cover up heinous activities of the gang that for a long time has subjected residents of Kipakaren to untold suffering and killings,” added Ngoko.
A week ago, chaos erupted in the same estate following the killing of another man in a similar manner whose body was also found floating in river Sosian.
The motive of the brutal killing of 25-year-old Abdi Ali is yet to be established but police said that they have launched investigations into all incidents.
