MP Peter Kaluma threatens to eject Sifuna from ODM party for criticising Cabinet Secretaries Mbadi and Wandayi.
The infighting in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party seems to be far from over, as members continue to tear into each other over the broad-based government.
In the recent past, the party’s secretary general, Edwin Sifuna, has been attracting sharp criticism from the faction that is leaning toward President William Ruto’s government.
The party is divided on whether or not to support the government by virtue of the memorandum of understanding the Orange Party signed with UDA, and also the presence of former ODM officials in government.
It has been Sifuna’s position that his party is not in government, and has been riding on that to castigate the government, extending his onslaught to the one-time ODM officials who joined the administration.
Raila backed Sifuna when he stated that the latter speaks on behalf of the party, but that would not calm the situation.
On Sunday, May 10, Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma took on Sifuna for attacking the government while aware that the ODM party has an existing pact with the UDA government.

Kaluma argued that Sifuna, who is also the senator for Nairobi, was failing in his duty of being the custodian of the party’s treaties.
“My brother Sifuna must know we made him secretary general to speak on resolved party positions such as the Memorandum of Understanding between UDA and ODM, which lays the foundation for the Broad-Based Government,” Kaluma said.
He wondered when the secretary general was purporting to be guided by the MoU, but at the same time castigated the government.
The MP warned Sifuna that if he did not tone down his harsh criticism of the government, then he would be forced out of the party.
“You can’t support the MoU and attack the BBG at the same time, my friend! In which government are you, if not the Government of Kenya?
Who do you think you can dupe that ODM is not in government when the party holds all those critical ministries and departments of government? You can’t be eating and vomiting at the same time. You are not more articulate than Namwamba. You either shape up or ship out!” Kaluma said.
