Senior security bosses visit Homa Bay DG's home after assasination claims
Senior security officers on Monday visited the residence of Homa Bay Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga following reports of a possible security threat at his home in Kabuor village, Kasipul constituency.
The Deputy Governor said the incident unfolded around 10 PM on Sunday night, when his family noticed unusual movements near the compound while he was still away.
They alerted him immediately, prompting him to change his travel route and vehicle as a precaution.
According to his security team, two unidentified individuals were seen hiding in nearby bushes roughly 300 meters from the home.
When the Deputy Governor’s vehicle approached, the driver stopped, and a police officer stepped out to question the men.
The individuals reportedly fled towards a nearby river, prompting the officer to fire warning shots into the air to deter any further threat.
Police from Oyugis and Rachuonyo South stations responded to the scene, but no spent cartridges or physical evidence of an attack were recovered.
Investigators confirmed that at the time of the scare, the Deputy Governor was not accompanied by his usual security detail. However, a personal driver did discharge four rounds from a licensed firearm as part of the response.

Speaking to reporters at his home on Monday, Magwanga expressed concern over the incident, stating that he had received threats in the past but never imagined they would escalate so quickly.
“I urge security agencies to take this seriously and act swiftly. No one should feel unsafe in their own home,” he said.
The incident comes just days after the burial of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, although it remains unclear whether the two events are connected.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine who the individuals were and what their motives might have been.
As investigations continue, the Deputy Governor has called for enhanced security not only for himself but for all leaders facing similar threats.
