Ilkay Gundogan Told He’s Free to Leave Manchester City With Real Madrid Likely to be His Destination.
According to reports, Manchester City will lose another of its long-serving talents this summer, with Ilkay Gundogan expected to follow Fernandinho out the exit door at the conclusion of the season.
Since his £20 million signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2016, the German international has been one of City’s most impressive midfielders.
After six seasons at the Etihad Stadium, Gundogan has a trophy cabinet that includes three Premier League crowns, an FA Cup, and four Carabao Cups.

But according to the Daily Mail, Gundogan will be allowed to leave after not being guaranteed game time next year – with the German being spotted on a private flight to Spain on Monday, raising suggestions that Real Madrid could be a potential next destination.
According to the report, while conversations have been polite, Guardiola has told Gundogan he is free to find another club in the summer.
The German’s contract is up in a year, and City wants to make the most of their last chance to recuperate a price.
Gundogan is regarded to be at a point in his career where he expects to be a regular starter every week.
Gundogan is said to have dismissed the idea of a contract extension, which may have influenced his choice even more.
Real attempted to sign him when he was with Dortmund, and although his trip has been granted by City chiefs – who have given their players two days off ahead of the Villa tie – it is unknown as to whether Gundogan has gone for talks with the Santiago Bernabeu outfit.
