Organizations offering free dowry after a decline in weddings to boost marriages in the Coast Region.
Two Kenyan organizations have volunteered to offer free dowry to boost marriages in Lamu County in the Coast Region.
The two Organizations offering free dowry are Kenya Youth Business Trust and Sharjah Charity International.
They joined forces to gift men unable to raise their dowry by giving it to them for free as well as gift them Ksh50,000 and free shoes for them and their partners.
A spokeswoman from one of the organizations told the press on Saturday, May 28, that the money gift is solely given to help the newlywed couple get started in their new life together.
She also mentioned that the husband receives his wedding attire and shoes in addition to the dowry and cash payment, while the bride receives a gown and shoes.
With the first wave of nuptials set for July 4, 2022, their wedding expenses would also be covered.

“They will be given a stipend of about Ksh50,000 to start their life. Then, they will receive wedding gowns and Kanzu,” she told Citizen TV.
From a probable applicant pool of over 65 couples having financial challenges, 50 couples have been authorized for the first round of weddings.
One of the winners informed the press that he was delighted by the initiative because he had been unable to marry because his bride’s family had demanded a large payment.
“This project has really helped me a lot because I had no means to raise the dowry. I loved her but I had no means to get the dowry because the demands were too much,” he stated.
All applicants are given a questionnaire to fill out before a full background check is conducted to determine their eligibility, according to the organizations.
The individual’s family tree, health status, and employment status are among the questions on the form.
