Murkomen made the declaration through a gazette notice issued on Thursday, March 26, 2026.

The counties include Laikipia, Meru and Isiolo.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 106 (1) of the National Police Service Act, 2011, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, in consultation with the National Security Council, has made a declaration on the 26th March, 2026, declaring parts of Laikipia, Meru and Isiolo Counties as security disturbed and dangerous,” read the notice in part.

According to the government, in Laikipia North, the disturbed areas include Mugogo Forest, The Hammer, Siku, Makuriani and the Doldol area.

In Tigania East Sub-county, the listed areas include Mlima Rasta (Kamberia Sub-location), Mlima Lombolio (Kamberia Sub-location) Mworontoi Belt (Gambela Sub-location) and the Nyambene Game Reserve (Kisima Sub-location, Chumviere Sub-location).

On the other hand, Igembe North Sub-county has also been marked, and the Ngatho Dam Area, which is located in Antuambui Sub-location listed among the security-disturbed and dangerous areas.

Meanwhile, in Isiolo North Sub-county, the government has warned of the Sarova Game Reserve (Manyatta Zebra Sub-location), Lowarengishu Hills (Eremet Sub-location), Mutunyi Hills and the Loruku Hills (Loruku Sub-location).

“This notice shall take effect on the 26th March, 2026 as from 6.00 p.m., for a period of thirty (30) days and may, at any time be withdrawn or continued in force for such further period as the Cabinet Secretary may, in each case, by notice in the Gazette direct,” read the notice in part.

According to CS Murkomen, the government has declared the three counties as security-disturbed and dangerous to facilitate a major security operation to weed out perpetrators of recent incidents of criminal activities in the areas.

“We have declared parts of Laikipia, Meru, and Isiolo counties as security-disturbed and dangerous to facilitate a major security operation to weed out perpetrators of recent incidents of criminal activities in the areas,” Murkomen said.

In addition, this operation, which he said also involves a mop-up of illegal firearms, follows the government’s earlier deployment of 400 additional police officers to reinforce the officers on the ground, among other measures.
