The Principal of Kakamega County Polytechnic, Caroline Khamete, tragically passed away following reports of an alleged abduction.
She was reportedly abducted on Wednesday and later found dead in Lake Victoria, Kisumu County.
Earlier claims suggested she had taken her own life; however, those reports were dismissed, with new information indicating she was abducted by unknown individuals before her body was discovered.
“Madam Caroline Khamete, the Principal of Kakamega County Polytechnic, left the institution, heading home, as it was her routine.
However, she was abducted along the way by unknown individuals on Wednesday and later found dead in Kisumu,” read part of a report.
Caroline Khamete joined Kakamega County Government in 2015, having previously served at Matioli County Polytechnic.
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, while mourning the principal, stated that the circumstances surrounding her death are currently under police investigation.
He described Caroline Khamete as having great diligence, commitment, and passion in promoting technical education in the country.
Barasa also acknowledged the principle for mentoring trainees sponsored by the County Government in collaboration with development partners, some of whom had previously dropped out of the formal education system.

He further extended condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and students, praying for comfort and peace during this difficult time.
“At this time of great grief and loss, I hold Ms. Khamete’s family in my prayers, asking that God may comfort and strengthen them. I also pray for her friends, colleagues, the students of Kakamega County Polytechnic, and all those who were touched by her industrious and selfless life,” said Barasa.
This came months after another incident involving Simon Isiaho, the principal of Munyuki PAG Secondary School, who went missing on November 3, 2025.
Simon Shange was on his way to collect the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination papers from the Lugari Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner’s office when his vehicle was reportedly involved in a road accident at the Muge blackspot along the Eldoret–Malaba Highway.
While witnesses reported seeing him alive after the crash, he vanished from the scene under mysterious circumstances.
His body was eventually recovered from the Kipkaren River, badly mutilated, five days later, on November 8.
