The Holy Ghost Coptic Church of Africa has announced burial plans for the late founder of the church, Father John Pesa, who passed on May 28, 2026
The church leaders who met at the church compound in the Mamboleo area on Wednesday said the controversial clergy will be laid to rest on June 20, within the church compound.
First, Archbishop Dan Oketch, who spoke to the media, says the clergy’s last wish was that he be laid to rest within the church compound, noting that they expect the final rites to go on smoothly.

Oketch says they expect proper security arrangements during his requiem mass on Friday, 19, which will be held at the Mamboleo Sportsground.
Controversy has surrounded John Pesa’s apostolic work, where he was earlier accused of detaining mentally ill persons at his church.
In August 2023, police raided the Holy Ghost Coptic Church facility following ongoing investigations into claims that the controversial preacher detains the sick for prayers at the premises.
The officers visited the rooms where some of the mentally ill patients were allegedly detained and took them into a standby ambulance, which was later driven to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).
In a separate incident, graves were found inside the church.
