Agriculture CS Peter Munya asks Kenyans to find alternative meals amid high maize flour prices
Agriculture CS Peter Munya has asked Kenyans to find an alternative source of meals amid high maize flour prices.
Speaking during the opening of the Nakuru Agricultural show on Friday, July 1, CS Munya stated that he had walked through various exhibitions and realized Kenya was rich in food.
He urged Kenyans not to restrict themselves to one food since they grow a variety that can sustain them.
Peter Munya explained that a situation like now when there’s maize shortage in the county demand Kenyans to seek alternative meals to survive.
“If you walk around, there are many varieties of food. Kenyans should not depend on one since they grow many. We have to start embracing other food not just maize,” he said.
However, Agriculture CS Peter Munya promised that the shortage of maize would be sorted.
He said the government was working to find maize from outside adding the tax relief introduced by the government was just a little reprieve.
“We are planning how it can reach us so that the price drops further,” Munya said.
He further hit out at politicians who he said had politicized the maize shortage instead of providing solutions to help Kenyans.
