The former presidents are entitled to a monthly salary and benefits which are always included in the national budget.

Heads of State who leave their positions are paid 80% of their pensionable income, which is usually 60% of their gross pay.

When President Uhuru Kenyatta leaves office after the August polls, he will be entitled to a lifetime salary of Ksh1.2 million per month.

In addition, Uhuru will be given a Ksh34.6 million one-time gratuity at the conclusion of his term as president.

He will also receive monthly payments of roughly Ksh1 million, which include a Ksh300,000 residence and Ksh216,562 in fuel subsidies.

Uhuru will also get Ksh300,000 in water, electricity, and telephone stipend and Ksh200,000 for entertainment.

In addition, the outgoing president also receives four cars, each with a driver – whose salary will be paid by the government.

The retirement package also includes staff – six security guards, two cooks, four housekeepers, four messengers, four secretaries, two laundry personnel, and staff for a fully-furnished office.

When Ruto retires, he will receive Ksh29.5 million, which is equal to the annual salary he received for the two terms he held office.

Additionally, he will receive two saloon cars with engines no larger than 2,000 cc that can be replaced every four years.

He will also receive two, four-wheel drive saloon cars with an engine no bigger than 3,000 cc, which will similarly be replaced every four years.
