Alexandre Lacazette and Arsenal have agreed to make a decision over his future in the summer with striker’s contract set to expire in June

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that a decision over Alexandre Lacazette’s future with the club will not be made until the end of the season.

Arteta, speaking during Friday’s pre-match press conference, says the club and the player have agreed to focus on the rest of the campaign before any discussions over a new contract.

Alexandre lacazette, who is in the midst of his fifth season with the Gunners, has just three months remaining on his current deal.

‘We have discussed that at the end of the season when we know where we are we are going to make a decision together,’ Arteta explained.

‘We agreed the decision is to do it in the summer and that’s when we are going to do it.

Arteta was asked later in the press conference if Lacazette was happy to be waiting until the summer to discuss his future.

‘That’s a question for him,’ the Spaniard said. But obviously, we have to make decisions and we’ve made that decision to try and finalise that at the end of the season. That’s what we’re going to have to try and do.’

Lacazette has contributed 70 goals and 36 assists in 196 appearances for Arsenal and took the place of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the starting XI earlier this season.

However, he has received criticism for his lack of goals this term with just three league goals in 20 appearances.

It is no secret that the London club are after a top striker in the summer but much could depend on whether or not they do secure Champions League football.
