The Party of National Unity (PNU) hints at leaving the Azimio la Umoja Coalition after NARC Kenya
The Party of National Unity (PNU) hints at leaving the Azimio la Umoja Coalition after NARC Kenya.
Speaking to the press on Monday, July 29, PNU leader Peter Munya disclosed that the party’s leadership will convene next Thursday to decide the fate of the party in the coalition.
He claimed that if the ODM party, which is part of the coalition, had joined the government, then those who wanted to be in the opposition would have to separate.
“Next Thursday, there will be a PNU NEC meeting where we will decide our stand as a party regarding our relationship with the Azimio coalition because ODM party has joined the government. And if they have joined the government, they can’t be in government and also in opposition.
“If Azimio has become part of the government, those of us who want to be in opposition have to separate ourselves so that we can continue to defend the citizens of Kenya,” Munya remarked.

The former Agriculture CS also noted that according to the Constitution, there must be people in government and people in opposition.
“You can’t be in government and in opposition at the same time. So with a lot of respect to our partners in Azimio, we wish them well in government but they must make a decision to move completely into government or stay in opposition,” he added.
His remarks come after NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua announced her exit from Azimio on Thursday, July 25.
In a statement to newsrooms, Karua, who was Raila Odinga’s running mate in the 2022 general election, noted that NARC Kenya’s stay in Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance was no longer tenable.
