Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirms fresh injury blow for 23 old Arsenal star
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirms a fresh injury blow for 23-year-old Arsenal star Takehiro Tomiyasu after Wolves win.
Following the club’s stunning 2-1 Premier League triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arteta disclosed a new injury blow for Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The 23-year-old came off the bench against Brentford after returning from a calf injury, but he was not included in the matchday squad for yesterday’s match at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners revealed that he was out with a calf injury before to the game.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has now delivered an alarming update by admitting that he has injured his other calf.
He told Arsenal.com: “Yes, it was the other calf. So he came back and he was completely fine, and in training he felt the other calf.”
“So this is in an issue because he’s a professional, who is giving absolutely everything to help us, and in the last few months he’s not been fit.”
Tomiyasu has been the Gunners’ best addition so far this season. The Japanese international has excelled in his ability to consistently win aerial and ground duels.
Cedric Soares has stepped up this month in his absence with strong performances. Some supporters have criticized the right-back, but he has proven them wrong in recent games.
Tomiyasu could be out for another long time, based on Arteta’s injury update. Cedric will be hoping to maintain his present form for the Gunners.
With a remarkable comeback win last night, the Gunners bolstered their top-four credentials. Wolves took the lead in the 10th minute thanks to a defensive blunder by Gabriel Magalhaes.
The equalizer did not come until the 82nd minute for Arsenal. Eddie Nketiah and Nicolas Pepe collaborated for a goal, with the latter earning his first league goal.
Pepe scored in the last seconds of stoppage time by passing through Alexandre Lacazette. Jose Sa’s touch diverted the ball into the net, and it was later ruled an own goal.
With two games remaining, the Gunners have closed to within one point of fourth-placed Manchester United. At the moment, they are in charge of their Champions League fate.
