Azimio says Ruto’s Homa Bay visit was meant to mock Raila, adding they haven’t been invited to any state function
Azimio coalition says Ruto’s Homa Bay visit was meant to mock their leader Raila Odinga as they deny being invited to any state function.
President William Ruto’s visit to Homa Bay county has drawn criticism from Azimio ally Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, who claims it was done to paint ODM leader Raila Odinga in bad light.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 4, during an interview with KTN News, Maanzo claimed that Ruto’s first visit to Raila’s backyard was not made in good faith.
“President Ruto’s visit to Homa Bay in my opinion was to spite Raila Odinga, it was not done in good faith,” Maanzo said.
Maanzo, a close ally of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, said even though the president has shown indications of working with all leaders, the Homa Bay visit had a political meaning and an hidden agenda.
“It is a good gesture that he wants to work with everyone, but looking at it politically, this was just a spiteful visit; it did not have the good faith they purported they went there for,” he added.
“It’s always courteous before other Members of Parliament, together with the president, visit a certain constituency or county to inform local leaders, if the visit is well-meaning,” he said.
His statement comes after the area leaders skipped Ruto’s function on Sunday, with Homa Bay town Peter Kaluma claiming that they were not invited to the function.
Meanwhile, On Tuesday, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna claimed that Azimio leaders have never been invited to state functions.
He made the remarks after he missed President William Ruto’s tour of Mukuru because he was not invited.
“I was not invited to President Ruto’s tour to Mukuru, anyway physical presence doesn’t ensure the concrete that was being poured yesterday dries,” he said in an interview with KTN.
Sifuna alleged that there is a problem with Ruto’s protocol team because they fail to invite leaders.
He added that they opt not to attend without invitations because they cannot gate crash the president’s function.
“The most critical thing is that there is no one of us in Azimio who is keen on this president or this government failing because we are all in this plane together. If we are wishing the pilot to fail, it is all of you going down,” he said.
