Chelsea in talks to sign 24-year-old winger with agent reported in London for negotiations
2 min readChelsea are in talks to sign Ousmane Dembele with the attacker’s agent believed to be in London for crucial negotiations.
Following his £135 million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2017, Dembele has struggled with a succession of injuries during his time at Barcelona, unable to justify his astronomical price tag.
The 24-year-old has only made 87 La Liga games in the last five seasons, and with only six months left on his current contract, the winger has fallen out with the Spanish giants after failing to reach an agreement on a contract extension.
Barcelona president Mateu Alemany indicated last week that if Dembele does not sign a new deal shortly, he will be sold this month.
“It is clear that Dembele does not want to continue with Barcelona. He does not want to be part of our project. We told Dembele he has to leave immediately. We expect Ousmane to be sold before January 31.” Football London said.
Chelsea appear to have stepped up their pursuit, according to Spanish writer Alfredo Martinez, who claims that Chelsea is in talks with Dembele and may even have an agreement in place.
‘Everything indicates that Chelsea is the club that is negotiating and that they may even have something agreed with Dembele.’
The chief editor of the Barca Times, Shay Lugassi, is quoted by Football London as saying that Dembele’s agent is in London for a ‘crucial meeting,’ fueling speculation over a possible move to Stamford Bridge.
Its wait and see how things develop over the coming days but it appears highly likely that Dembele will be leaving Barcelona before the end of the window with Chelsea in the mix for his signature.
