Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly in talks for Real Madrid return
Cristiano Ronaldo, the iconic Manchester United striker, is said to have instructed his agency to speak with Florentino Perez about a possible return to Real Madrid.
Ronaldo is said to have discussed ending his “horror” at Manchester United with the Red Devils’ management.
“Concerned about the way the club is going,” the Portuguese footballer and his representatives are alleged to be.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has previously expressed his dissatisfaction with Man United’s Premier League position.
However, it appears to be growing, since he is rumored to be seeking for a new club this summer.
According to Spanish daily Nacional, Ronaldo has asked his agent Jorge Mendes to meet with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
Despite his desire to retire with Man Utd, the 36-year-old is said to be unhappy at the club.
If the club fails to qualify for the Champions League, Ronaldo is expected to leave.
Since returning to Old Trafford from Juventus in the summer transfer window, Ronaldo has 14 goals in 23 games.
Man Utd, meanwhile, is in fourth place with 38 points, two points ahead of seventh-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
The club’s most recent success came on Saturday, when they defeated West Ham 1-0. Man United’s performance has been poor, despite the positive results.
The Red Devils had to make a number of changes, including the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was replaced by interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
There were also tales of disgruntled players and Man United dressing room squabbles.
Recruitment and transfer possibilities have also been discussed recently. Joao Palhinha, 26, is said to be a target for the club.
Man United’s search for a new manager has come to a halt because Rangnick is impressing club executives.
In eight league games, the German won five and lost only one. He’s also set up a fourth-round FA Cup fixture for the team against Middlesbrough.
Old Trafford officials believed he kept the squad from suffering embarrassing defeats.
Ronaldo signed with Real Madrid for a world record sum of £80 million ($107.5 million) in 2009. He went on to become the club’s all-time leading goal scorer, with 450 goals in 438 games.
