3 min readGachagua termed Raila as Kenya’s finest, now ready to lead the African continent as he praised his AUC chairmanship bid.
Speaking at State House in Nairobi on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, Gachagua termed Raila as Kenya’s finest, now ready to lead the African continent.
“This is a great moment for our country. What a day, what a moment! We are here as a country to unveil Kenya’s finest to go and lead Africa. It’s a proud moment for this country. This is a quest that has brought pride to our nation,” Gachagua stated.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua denied the existence of personal disagreements between him and Kenya’s AUC chairperson candidate Raila Odinga.
He said past conflicts arose because Raila was pursuing the same position as his boss, President Ruto.
Gachagua and Raila have in the past had a strained relationship that saw the two exchange words.
But the DP on Tuesday emphasized the differences were based on political competition and not on a personal level.

“Somebody may ask, why is Rigathi Gachagua who has before had issues with the leadership of Raila… As a truthful man, I had nothing against him; it’s only that we were competing for the same position between him and my boss,” Gachagua said amidst laughter from the crowd.
Gachagua said he endorses Raila for the position and is sure he will deliver as he is qualified.
“Today we are going to unveil the transformation of Raila Odinga from a national leader to an African statesman. And for us in leadership, we have learnt great lessons of resilience, endurance, and perseverance
“Now that he is going for a bigger sit in Africa, all of us, from the president, and the rest of Kenya are behind him,” the DP said.
The DP assured Raila that he wished him well in the AUC bid.
“Honourable Raila, as a man who listens to the ground, let me confirm to you, that all Kenyans across the political divide, and communities are in support of your candidature and we wish you well.”
