Former Gunner Sanchez Watt returns to Arsenal to provide coaching
Sanchez Watt coached a session with the Arsenal academy this week, following his desire to help out the club’s youngsters.
Sanchez Watt revealed on his Instagram page that he joined in coaching a session at the Hale End academy this week.
Watt announced in 2020 that he’d met with Arsenal academy boss Per Mertesacker about returning to the club to work with the youngsters, and it’s been a long time coming.
At the time, Arsenal u16 coach Dan Buck replied to the tweet to offer his support, saying: “Just shout if you need any help with your badges.” Will be good to see you back home.”
Watt initially joined Arsenal all the way back in 1998, when he was just seven years old.
He spent 15 years with the club, making three first-team appearances and scoring one goal. But after six loan spells, he moved to Colchester United permanently in 2013.
Many years later, after various injuries stunted his playing career, Watt is looking to make his name in coaching.
Watt is one of a long list of former players to return and help out at Arsenal in recent times.
The club have Mikel Arteta in the manager role, Edu working as a technical director, and Per Mertesacker in charge of the academy.
Then Jack Wilshere, David Seaman, and Fabrice Muamba are among others to return to the training ground at their old club recently.
