Allies of Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have called for the formation of a commission of inquiry to investigate the recent abductions allegedly committed by security operatives.
In a statement dated Tuesday, January 7, the team lamented over the laxity of the police in investigating the recent abductions which saw Kibet Bull and Billy Mwangi go missing for 15 days.
Owing to the alleged involvement of security agencies in the abductions, Gachagua allies noted that the commission of inquiry would be the best way to go.
“We call for the establishment of a public commission of inquiry to investigate the alarming series of abductions targeting individuals perceived as critics of President Ruto and the executive. These abductions represent a systematic attempt to silence dissent and instil fear among the populace.
“The inquiry to examine the politicization within police forces and other independent institutions. This includes investigating instances where security forces have been used for political gains or to intimidate and persecute dissenting voices,” read the statement in part.
The politicians also called for investigations into the recent violent attacks witnessed at events attended by Gachagua alongside the resurgence of criminal gangs.

On the other hand, the 25 lawmakers also demanded that Parliament convene a special sitting to discuss the abductions.
Finally, Gachagua’s allies demanded an assessment of laws to ensure that there is accountability for actions that contravene the Constitution and the rights of Kenyans.
We, the undersigned legislators, believe that these investigations are essential to uphold the rule of law, protect human rights, restore public trust in our institutions, and safeguard Kenya’s democratic values,” the lawmakers added in their statement.
“We stand in unwavering support of the formation of this independent commission of Inquiry and demand swift, decisive action to restore justice and security to our nation.”
