Two individuals arrested after locking Lands CS Alice Wahome inside the disputed Loresho Plot

Two individuals arrested after locking Lands CS Alice Wahome inside the disputed Loresho land.

Land Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome was on Tuesday, March 5 temporarily locked inside an Indian’s Ksh1.3 billion land in Loresho, Nairobi County.

This happened after CS Wahome ordered the surrender of an 8-acre piece of land in Loresho to Ashok Kumar the owner.

The CS spoke inside the land at the heart of a prolonged court battle that ended in favour of Kumar.

CS Wahome gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the Gigiri OCPD to drive out unknown persons who have been occupying the land, and who during the course of the CS’ visit attempted to block access to the parcel of land.

However, CS Wahome was locked inside the piece of land in Loresho with Ashok Kumar, the owner of the land, and his lawyer Suleiman Bashir.

She had gone to guarantee the owner of the 8-acre piece of land, who was locked out of his property.

According to reports, a group was waiting outside the plot and sprung into action after the CS and other officials entered through the gate.

They proceeded to lock the government officials inside before fleeing.

On the other side of the gate, the CS and other officials called for backup from the area police who brought one of the men to open the gate.

“You must arrest the fellow that locked the gate,” the CS directed.

The man was dragged to the gate and asked to open it, however, he complained that he did not have the keys to the padlock. He later used a log of wood to break down the lock and free Wahome and others.

According to the official, the men are suspected to have been sent by the former official who grabbed the land from the foreigners.

Following the incident, Wahome ordered all occupying the land to vacate by noon on Wednesday, March 6. She directed the Gigiri OCPD Joseph Kioko to oversee the operations and see to it that the land grabbers have vacated.

“There is no absolutely no reason why there should be any other person on this site other than the two owners of this land. I will ask for an immediate report by the OCPD,” the CS remarked.
