Police open probe after househelp allegedly jumps from a balcony of a4th floor to escape violent employer.

Police in Nairobi and Kiambu are investigating an incident where a house help reportedly jumped from the fourth floor of a building she was working at following an altercation with her employer.

The victim, a 22-year-old identified as Shanny Menza Atieno, is said to have endured harassment from her employer while working at the house based in Kiambu County.

On the fateful day, the employer reportedly stabbed the house help multiple times before she attempted to escape, forcing her to jump from the fourth floor of Jumuira apartments in Kiambu.

Atieno sustained multiple fracture injuries from the jump which doctors and family revealed left her with a broken spinal cord and leg among other body parts.

“Our girl broke her spinal cord and legs and has multiple bruises on the body,” a close relative told Citizen TV on condition of anonymity.

The victim also suffered knife cuts following what she revealed were sustained from multiple stabs the employer committed on her. This, she added, had been ongoing for a while.

“The moment I get into that house, I don’t have peace as I am constantly beaten up. The boss beats me using kitchen items and this is not the first time,” Atieno told the press.

“I am suffering, no one could rescue me as they used to lock me in the house even after causing harm to me in previous incidents where I got multiple knife cuts,” she added.

The victim, who has only been working at the house for two months, also revealed that the employer once assaulted her using a cooking stick. This incident left her with injuries on the head, forcing her to be admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital for a minor surgery procedure.

The house help is currently admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital where she was taken after neighbours found her lying on the basement floor unconscious after the fall.

In what is a shocking incident to the authorities, the police working on the case stated that they were also investigating the suspected employer for other crimes they were aware of.

Cases of brutality and femicide have been on the rise in the recent past with authorities estimating that over 100 Kenyans have died from the recent incidents recorded in the last four months alone.
