Rigathi Gachagua says CSs were afraid of Ruto and was the only leader who could openly call out the President
Rigathi Gachagua says CSs were afraid of Ruto and was the only leader who could openly call out the President.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, November 24, called out Kenya Kwanza leaders for allegedly being afraid of President William Ruto.
Gachagua went on another classic political tirade during a church service at the AIPCA Kangari in Kigumo, Murang’a County, where he offered a fresh perspective of what led to his bitter fallout with President Ruto.
The self-styled ‘truthful man’ told the church that he was among the only leaders who could openly call out the President when he felt some of Ruto’s decisions were detrimental to the citizens, citing the collapsed Adani deals as a classic example.
“The Adani issue was the source of friction between myself and the President,” Gachagua said, “In the Cabinet, I was the only one who could speak the truth. All others were afraid. When the president stared down at them, they all bowed down.”
He added, “Whenever Cabinet Secretaries were in disagreement, they used to ask me to tell the President. Nobody can tell the president this is not right.”
While insisting the level of impunity in the country was at an all-time high, Gachagua further revealed he was viewed as an enemy of progress whenever he tried to speak up about the Adani deal.
“I told the president this Adani deal was plagued with flaws and the people did not want it, and he despised me for it. And it was put out to look like I was opposing government projects,” Gachagua said.
Despite President Ruto severing ties with Adani over a sensational Ksh30 billion bribery allegation, Gachagua insists the government only cut ties with the Indian conglomerate because the United States government blew the whistle.

The former DP’s latest comments were that of a man who had little left to lose in his political career, three weeks after he was impeached as Deputy President.
As the race for supremacy in 2027 continues to shape up, Gachagua is intent on consolidating the Mount Kenya bloc and has in the past suggested that people from the region ‘do not forget’.
Meanwhile, there have been concerns over Gachagua’s safety in recent days after the former DP claimed to have been trailed by unmarked cars on Thursday, November 21.
Through his social media pages, the former DP said unmarked cars were parked outside his house before trailing him to the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), Kerarapon.
