Jitters in Mt Kenya over Azimio coalition future as leaders change tune

Azimio coalition staring at a dark future in the Mt Kenya region after a majority of its candidates lost in the August general elections.

Leaders from Mount Kenya who contested elections under the auspices of the Azimio Coalition, led by Jeremiah Kioni, Wambugu Ngunjiri, Kanini Kega, and Nduati Ngugi, have provided clarification regarding the coalition’s future in the Mount Kenya region.

The leaders now believe that their loyalty to President Uhuru Kenyatta cost them and that they never thought the yellow team could have simply gotten rid of them, according to the report.

Following the UDA tsunami that forced them out of their political seats, they are now looking at a bleak future with the Azimio Coalition party.

Kioni, Wambugu, and Kega continue to identify as Jubilee Party members despite their defeats, but moving ahead they will be interested in various fields where their interests will be taken into consideration.

The former Gatanga MP, who was a steadfast supporter of both Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, asserted that the Azimio alliance is a past tale that was intended to take Raila to the Statehouse but never materialized, hence it is a done and dusted deal.

He added that politics is a trend that is changing and that by 2027, many people would have their interests and allegiances in various alliances where they would think they would have a chance of getting a position.

“Azimio was only a special purpose vehicle to take Raila to State House and since it did not achieve its target, its fate is doomed, the Azimio Coalition Party is done and dusted. I moved on to other private and business matters,” Kiburi said as quoted by the Standard media.

The majority of Jubilee members especially from Mt Kenya were left as orphans after the August general elections and they are now figuring out on better options ahead of the 2027 politics.
