Gideon Moi suspends Nick Salat from Kanu, the secretary general for violating the party’s constitution.

Kanu Chairman Gideon Moi suspended Secretary General and Former Bomet East Member of Parliament (MP) Nick Salat from the party on Thursday, December 15.

Gideon Moi explained to the media that Salat had violated the party’s Constitution, and a decision was made to suspend him.

He was temporarily relieved from his duties as a member of Kanu’s secretariat for 30 days.

“This is no notify you that at the National Executive Committee meeting on December 15, several complaints on your conduct and violation of the party Constitution were placed before the members for discussion.

“You are hereby suspended forthwith from carrying out and or performing your duties as the party’s Secretary General pending the determination of the disciplinary,” the statement read in part.

Salat’s impending expulsion from the party comes less than 24 hours after he called for new party elections to replace the party’s leadership.

He contended that Kanu needed new ideologies if it was serious about staying relevant in the aftermath of the party’s poor performance in the August 9 General Election.

Despite his disclaimer, the suspended Secretary General’s sentiments to replace some of the perennial leaders rattled the independence party’s top leadership.

“Nobody is directly targeted. We just want to transform the party and make it dynamic yet again. The fact is we are not doing well at the moment,” Salat remarked.

Moreover, the ex-MP revealed plans to hold a nationwide recruitment drive prior to the in-house elections.

Kanu won only four parliamentary seats in the elections. Tiaty was represented by William Kamket, Samburu West by Naisula Lesuuda, North Horr by Wario Guye Adhe, and Kilgoris by Julius Sunkuli.
