In a statement on Monday, KPLC called on Kenyans to load their electricity tokens ahead of the upcoming maintenance slated to kick off on the night of Saturday, June 2.
According to the notice, the system upgrade is scheduled for June 2 at 10:00 p.m. to June 3, 2024 at 10:00 p.m.
The utility company intimated that the prepaid token vending system will be unavailable during that time.
“We wish to inform our customers that the prepaid token vending system will be unavailable from 10:00 pm, Sunday, June 2 to 10:00 pm Monday, June 3 to enable us to upgrade our systems for improved delivery,” read part of the notice.
Kenya Power advised its customers to buy enough tokens before then to avoid any conveniences since they will not be able to buy tokens during the period.

“During this period, customers will not be able to buy electricity tokens from all vending points including Kenya Power offices, M-Pesa Paybill number 888880, Airtel Money, and banking channels,” KPLC stated.
Meanwhile, in April, KPLC announced a 13.7 percent reduction in the cost of power.
In a statement on Monday, April 15, KPLC said the reduction is a result of the strengthening of the Kenya Shilling and a reduction in the cost of fuel that is used to generate electricity.
“We are happy to note that the reduction has given a reprieve to our customers and we are optimistic about the prevailing macroeconomic environment and the improved hydrology. which enables us to dispatch less thermal power, will sustain the benefit to our customers,” Kenya Power Managing Director Joseph Siror stated.
