Latest Chelsea injury news ahead of Club World Cup final vs Palmeiras; Mount, Reece James

Latest Chelsea injury news ahead of Saturday afternoon’s FIFA Club World Cup final against Palmeiras on Saturday.

Chelsea advanced to the FIFA Club World Cup final after a 1-0 win over Al Hilal on Wednesday.

The only goal of the game was scored by Romelu Lukaku in the first half of the match at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, as the Blues prepare for the weekend’s final versus Palmeiras.

Even though it is unknown whether Thomas Tuchel will fly to the United Arab Emirates while recovering from Covid-19, he will want his best players ready for the final on Saturday.

The latest Chelsea injury news and updates ahead of the final against Palmeiras

Mason Mount

Mount picked up a minor knock in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round win over Plymouth Argyle, raising questions over whether the England international will be well enough to face Al Hilal on Wednesday.

Mount, on the other hand, came on in the second half of the triumph, assuaging supporters’ fears, and he could start on Saturday.

Reece James

Although James has traveled to the UAE alongside his Chelsea teammates, Zsolt Low has stated that the defender will not play in the competition as he continues his rehabilitation from injury.

“Reece James, no chance he’ll play in the cup. He’s in a very good way but will miss still some days, some training sessions. He’s here to enjoy the group again.”

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

The Chelsea midfielder has been pulled out of the tournament team after picking up an injury ahead of the weekend’s match against Plymouth.

It looks to have been deemed significant enough to keep him out of the Club World Cup, therefore he will look to return to the Premier League in the near future.

Expected return date: Crystal Palace (A) – February 19

Ben Chilwell

Chilwell’s recovery is expected to be delayed in comparison to the rest of his colleagues.

He has been ruled out until at least the end of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury against Juventus and requiring reconstructive surgery as a result.

Expected return date: 2022/23 season
