A number of African presidents and former presidents are gracing the Raila's AUC bid launch at State House

A number of African presidents and former presidents are gracing the Raila’s AUC bid launch at State House.

Several Presidents and former Presidents are in Nairobi attending the launch of Raila Odinga’s bid to become the next African Union Commission boss.

The launch is being spearheaded by President William Ruto in Nairobi, Kenya.

Top African leaders have joined President William Ruto in gracing the AUC event.

Among the leaders attending the event are Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu and her South Sudan counterpart Salva Kiir, who is also the chairman of the East African Community.

Suluhu arrived in the country on Tuesday morning, August 27, and was welcomed by Lands CS Alice Wahome, while Kiir arrived on Monday evening and was welcomed by Trade CS Salim Mvurya.

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni is also attending the ceremony, alongside Burundi’s Prime Minister Gervais Ndirakobuca.

Former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo are also in attendance.

Rwanda is being represented in the ceremony by her Foreign Affairs Minister, Olivier Nduhungirehe.

Raila is seeking to replace Moussa Faki of Chad, whose term comes to an end early next year.

Raila is facing competition from Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahmoud Youssouf, Anil Gayan (Mauritius) and Richard Randriamandrato (Madagascar).

Kenya formally submitted Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Chairmanship (AUC) seat in July.

Foreign affairs PS Korir Singo’ei said the government had presented the requisite documentation of Kenya’s nominee for the Chairmanship to the Dean of Eastern Region.

“Under the authority of the Government of Kenya and as per the Statutes and Rules of the African Union Commission, we have today formally submitted requisite documentation of Kenya’s nominee for the Chairmanship of AfricanUnion, H.E. Raila Amolo Odinga, to the Dean of Eastern Region, H.E. Dharmraj Busgeeth, Ambassador of Mauritius,” Singo’ei said.
