NHIF announces immediate changes in mobile payments

All NHIF mobile payments to be made via government pay bill 222222 in accordance with Ruto directive

All NHIF mobile payments to be made via government pay bill 222222 in accordance with Ruto directive.

The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) has announced that all payments through mobile money platforms will effective immediately be made through the Government Pay bill Number 222222.

In a statement released on Sunday, December 10, NHIF CEO Elijah Wachira stated that the action is compliant with the presidential decree directing all state entities to stop accepting playbills and transfer all payments to 222222.

“The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) notifies all Members and Employers that effective immediately, all NHIF payments through mobile money platforms shall only be made through the Government Pay bill Number 222222,” Wachira stated.

He added, “This is in line with the Kenya Gazette No. 16008 of 2022 and the Presidential Directive designating the use of Pay bill Number 222222 as the Government’s single payment platform.”

NHIF members paying for a penalty were told to substitute the NHIFM with NHIFP and then add their ID number.

Employers contributing for their employees will henceforth use NHIFE-ESlip NUMBER as the account number for monthly contributions and NHIFEP-EMPLOYER CODE for employer penalty.

“To access NHIF services, please visit www.selfcare-ecitizen.nhif.or.ke/ or www.nhif.or.ke or the NHIF Mobile App, available on the App Store or Play Store,” Wachira explained.

Wachira was among the 17 State-run agencies CEOs that were summoned by the Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau in November to explain their failure to comply with the executive order.

On June 30, during the unveiling of government services on eCitizen President William Ruto directed all state agencies to migrate their services online and to use 222222 as the official paybill by the end of the year.

He ordered that over 1,000 Paybill numbers used for the collection of payments for government services be shut down within 90 days.
