Kenyan youths are expected to travel to Australia for job opportunities after the government secured work opportunities for them through the National Youth Service(NYS).
The National Youth Service(NYS) announced that the interviews for the 390 youth will kick off on September 10 and the upon completion of the process, successful candidates will travel abroad for job opportunities as part of adept laborers.
“The application period for opportunities in Australia ended on September 3, 2024, receiving a total of 1,370 applications. After completing the shortlisting process, the Employment Liaison office publishes the names of the candidates who have met the job requirements, along with the interview schedule,” NYS statement read in part.
The opportunity is expected to give the youths employment opportunities in a bid to cut on the high number of unemployment that is currently a headache to the government and in particular, the thousands of youth who graduate from the paramilitary training program.
NYS had invited the graduates to apply for artisan opportunities in mechanics, carpentry and construction works among other jobs.
During the announcement in August, NYS revealed that successful candidates will earn approximately Ksh6.6 million every year from the opportunities in Australia.

The candidates, according to NYS, will be subjected to a six month probation exercise before being fully confirmed for the roles upon arrival.
The interviews will be conducted at NYS holding unit in Nairobi and the candidates will be required to present copies of their identification documents and certificates.
They will also be required to prove that they have the necessary work experience and skills before they are considered for the opportunities.
‘’Images of work recommendation letters from your past employers will be highly needed. Candidates will be required to be at the interview venue at 8.00 am,” NYS added in the statement.
The 390 candidates from different parts of the country are set to be interviewed for the opportunities on September 10, 2024, in Nairobi.
In July, the government announced that it had secured over 300,000 jobs for youths abroad through the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.
