Pakistan takes action after Arshad Sharif’s Murder in Kenya

Pakistan government forms task force to investigate controversial murder of Journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya.

Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, on Tuesday, October 25, ordered the formation of a commission to investigate the murder of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif.

According to Reuters, Islamabad would establish a high-level commission to ensure transparency in the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the journalist’s death.

The Prime Minister did not, however, specify the commission’s jurisdiction.

“I have decided that we will form a high-level judicial commission to investigate the matter, and will put in a request for an Islamabad High Court judge for this,” the Prime Minister stated.

On Tuesday, October 25, the government of Kenya facilitated the repatriation of the Sharif’s remains to Pakistani.

This came after President William Ruto and the leader of Pakistan agreed over the phone to hasten the journalist’s funeral in accordance with Islamic customs.

The Pakistani government also asked Kenya to launch credible investigations.

On Sunday, October 23, the prominent  Pakistani journalist was shot after police allegedly opened fire on the car he was travelling in.

He was reportedly living in Kenya after fleeing his country in August 2022 for safety reasons.
