President Uhuru To Meet Kalonzo and Raila To Strike Deal
President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to meet Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka to strike another deal ahead of the August general elections.
According to media sources, the meeting on Thursday, March 31 would focus on resolving the thorny issues preventing Odinga and Kalonzo from reaching an agreement before the election.
As the clock ticks down to the August 9 general election, President Uhuru and the two leaders will meet for the second time in less than a month in an attempt to reach an agreement. Who will be the ODM leader’s running mate is one of the most critical issues to be debated.
Kalonzo, who dropped out of the presidential race earlier this month to endorse the former Prime Minister, has expressed interest in the running mate position.
A number of Raila supporters have chastised the former Vice President for not attending Azimio rallies, but he has declared that he will only go if he is appointed as the party’s running mate.
Kalonzo also wants the name of the coalition altered to Azimio OKA.
” We were not Azimio so what was passed there was Raila Odinga was given the mandate to be Azimio presidential candidate but when we went to Jacaranda, I clarified that now on behalf of OKA we will support Odinga and I hope my friends in OKA will agree with me, ” Kalonzo said after endorsing Raila.
“This thing has shifted, it is no longer Azimio la Umoja Movement but Azimio-OKA. Our lawyers led by me will have to reflect on the legal technicalities. What I am sure of is that in the next few days, we will register Azimio-OKA,” he added.
