Raila moves to quell the rebellion within his ODM Party after an open outburst by Babu Owino and Ledama Ole Kina over parliamentary leadership positions
In the face of mounting discontent inside his 17-year-old party, ODM leader Raila Odinga will preside over a meeting of the Central Management Committee (CMC) today Monday, September 26.
A Meeting of the party’s highest decision-making body is anticipated to deal with contentious topics that could split the party apart.
Raila is scheduled to meet all ODM elected and nominated members of the National Assembly and the Senate.
Mbadi, Deputy party leaders Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Director of Elections Junet Mohamed, and Secretary for Political Affairs Opiyo Wandayi, among other leaders, are expected to attend the meeting.
The meeting comes after Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino and Narok senator, Ledama Ole Kina, waged a rebellion war against the ODM party demanding rewards for their loyalty and sacrifice.
They argued that the party leadership actively failed to recognize their allegiance and vowed to withdraw their loyalty if the status quo is maintained.
Their biggest concern was the dishing out of house leadership positions which they lamented was unfairly given to those who were older in the ODM party.
“We want to see the party reward the youth, and loyalty. Otherwise, from today some of us will start being disloyal. If we will not be rewarded as the youth in ODM, then we will reward ourselves,” Ledama Ole Kina stated.
However, ODM National Chairman John Mbadi said the meeting’s agenda will be to approve the party’s books of account.
“The Central Management Committee meeting convened by our party leader will only be about approving our party’s books of account, we do not have the discussion of parliamentary committee leadership as an agenda of this meeting,” said Mr. Mbadi.
