Ralf Rangnick announces change of formation to accommodate struggling star
Ralf Rangnick is planning an overhaul of Manchester United’s tactics after a concerning run of one win in four Premier League games leaves them seventh in the table
In order to turn around Manchester United’s bad form and get Jadon Sancho fire, Ralf Rangnick will abandon his preferred system.
The interim manager is ready to abandon his 4-2-2-2 formation in favor of a 4-3-3 formation that he believes will assist Jodan Sancho.
The Red Devils drew 2-2 with Aston Villa on Saturday, leaving them in seventh place in the Premier League rankings with only one win in four games.
Rangnick concedes that his regular 4-2-2-2 formation hasn’t suited the 21-year-strengths, old’s and the German is willing to change things up to put him in his “best position.”
“We have now decided to play a 4-3-3 as we did against Aston Villa, with one holding six, two eights, and three offensive players,” Rangnick said ahead of United’s trip to Brentford on Wednesday night.
“It’s clear in a 4-3-3 that he (Sancho) is a player for either of the wing positions, either left or right, he can play both.
“I think he would prefer a little bit the left side, because then he can switch inside and shoot on goal with his strong right foot.
“However, I have no doubts about his position.”
“He’s a winger, as we say in Germany, someone who can dribble the ball quickly, and there’s no doubt in my mind that winger is the best position for him.”
“But, once again, it’s not just about getting the best training available.
“By the way, I told him that the day before yesterday – confirm the performances you put in during training while you’re on the field.”
Sancho will undoubtedly benefit from a switch to a formation that utilizes natural wingers rather than the 4-2-2-2 system in which he previously played as an attacking midfielder.
Sancho was a standout on either wing for Dortmund during his time there, and Rangnick believes he can repeat such performances if he can overcome his mental impediment.
