Mama Ida Odinga castigates Ruto for praising police over killings urging him to fire IG Koome
Mama Ida Odinga castigates Ruto for praising police over killings urging him to fire IG Koome.
Ida Odinga, the wife of opposition leader Raila Odinga, asked that President William Ruto dismiss Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome for using excessive force against demonstrators.
While speaking in Vihiga county on Saturday, August 12, 2023, where she was attending a memorial service for some of those killed during the opposition’s marches, Ida accused Koome of ordering the police to “use excessive” force against protestors
Mama Ida stated that the best course of action for the IG would be for him to voluntarily resign from his position.
In addition, She accused the top Kenya Kwanza leadership of sanctioning the killings.
“These people who are killing got instructions from somewhere, but wao wenyewe walikosa akili mtu akikuambia uende uue utaua? Kwa nini walikua wanaua kwa niaba ya wenye waliwapatia instructions?

“Kama hawakufuata instructions, tunajua ni Koome. Koome if you did not give this people instructions to go and kill can you recall them? Unaeza kuwapeleka kortini? Kama uliwatuma wafanye ile kazi uliwatuma nakuamba bwana Koome the best thing you can do in a democratic republic of Kenya is resign. If you think killing the children of Kenya is what an IG means then you are mistaken,” she said.
Mama Ida further took a swipe at President Ruto accusing him of enabling the IG’s wrongdoings.
She went on to state that if Ruto is unable to fire the IG he should resign since he has severally acknowledged that he is against any form of police brutality.
“Yule alichagua Koome kua IG wewe pia uko na hatia. Kama yulee mtu ulichagua hafanyi kazi na hafanyi kazi vizuri unatakikana umfute kazi. Nangoja kuona siku gani utafuta Koome kama unaona kua alifanya kazi mbaya. Na kama unaona huezi mfuta ata wewe unatakikana u resign on principle,” she said.
“If you are a good person just be man enough and send Koomee home,” she added.
