Ruto while hosting Chancellor Olaf Scholz announces the introduction of the German language in Kenyan schools.

President William Ruto has announced that going forward, learning institutions will learn the German language. 

Speaking during the joint press with Chancellor Olaf Scholz at State House, Nairobi, Ruto said the move will enable the two countries to bridge the language gap. 

“We agreed to introduce teaching and learning of German in basic education institutions, TVET, and other institutions of higher learning,” Ruto said. 

Ruto added Germany has agreed to support Kenya to train more teachers to assist in the language. 

“We agreed to align as much as possible the Kenyan and German TVET curriculum,” he said.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ruto also agreed to establish a twinning institutions framework that will pair Kenya’s TVET colleges with those in Germany.

“What we seek is a synergy to enrich learning and grow the economy from the bottom up, Germany has agreed to enhance Hustler Fund to increase affordable and easy access,” he said.

Scholz is in Kenya for a state visit. He makes a return to Africa for a three-day trip that will see him visit Ethiopia and Kenya.

Scholz who is accompanied by various dignitaries has also been scheduled to visit the geothermal power plant in Naivasha.

Germany committed to fund the expansion of the Olkaria Geothermal Station to increase its capacity.

Scholz also requested Germany to review the tariff barriers to allow Kenyan products to enter its market and that of the larger Europe.

He agreed to support Kenya’s efforts to conclude the negotiations for the Economic Partnership Agreement between the East African Community and the European Union on the principle of variable geometry.

He will later visit the Africa Union (AU) offices, the focus being regional and international security.
