President Ruto call out Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) for failing to comply with his directive on planting trees.
President William Ruto has called out Cabinet Secretaries over their failure to submit their plans and strategies for planting trees in counties.
Speaking on Thursday, March 21 during the launch of the Medium-Term Plan IV at State House, Ruto said each Cabinet Secretary had been allocated two counties to oversee the tree planting exercise.
“Every cabinet minister has already been assigned 2 counties and we will be expecting clarity in what every Cabinet Secretary and their team are doing on the tree planting exercise. I note with a bit of concern that I am yet to receive any meaningful strategy and plan from Cabinet Secretaries,” said Ruto.
President Ruto directed the CSs to present a plan and strategy for the counties assigned to them. Ruto noted that each county has been assigned between 400 million and 600 million trees.

“I will be expecting that every Cabinet Secretary will mobilize tree seedlings, communities, private sector, development partners and friends to participate in this excess in each county in Kenya,” Ruto stated.
This comes after the Kenya Kwanza government was challenged by Ecopreneur Dr. Isaac Kalua Green to be more serious with its plan to plant 15 billion trees across the country by 2032.
Speaking during this year’s International Day of Forests Green noted that it was unfortunate the country has not consistently heeded the calls for tree planting even after millions of shillings were used in hiring choppers for ministers to plant trees, yet such funds would have been used to maintain trees and also purchase more trees.
