Ruto’s ally opines the president made a mistake over Uhuru’s appointment as a peace envoy

Ruto’s ally, Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi opines the president was wrong to appoint Uhuru as a peace envoy.

President William Ruto, in the opinion of lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi, erred in appointing former President Uhuru Kenyatta to serve as Kenya’s regional peace envoy.

According to Ahmednasir, Uhuru lacks the political clout necessary to hold the position in Kenya and the continent of Africa.

“It was a huge mistake for President William Ruto to appoint President Uhuru Kenyatta as Kenya’s regional peace envoy. Uhuru has zero political capital in the region and Kenya during his tenure was seen as a meddler in the internal affairs of others always on behalf of third parties,” Ahmednasir tweeted.

Abdullahi’s remark comes after Uhuru skipped AU peace talks on the Ethiopia conflict which were scheduled to take place on 8, October in South Africa.

The former president explained his inability to attend in a letter to Mousa Faki Mahamat, the head of the African Union, citing a scheduling conflict.

“I wish to notify your good office that I will not be able to attend the AU-Convened Peace Talks scheduled for October 8, 2022, in South Africa owing to conflicts in my schedule,” he said in the letter dated October 6.

The former president, however, expressed commitment to being a party to such a meeting in the future if informed prior.

President Ruto in his inaugural speech appointed Uhuru Kenyatta as peace envoy in the Great Lakes region to be steering peace initiatives in the region.
