A Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) employee attached to the Domestic Taxes Department charged for soliciting Sh5 million bribe.

David Omondi Omogo, an employee of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) attached to the Domestic Taxes Department, was on Tuesday 30 July arraigned at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on charges of soliciting a bribe of Sh5 million.

In a statement, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said the suspect faced four charges of receiving a bribe.

Omogo is said to have asked for the Sh5 million bribe from Pascal Ovinda in order to influence the reduction of tax arrears owed by Infinity Benefits Limited totaling Sh 25.2 million.

“The charges allege that Omogo solicited a financial bribe of Sh5 million from Pascal Ovinda Purporting to influence a reduction in tax arrears owed by Infinity Benefits Limited to the Kenya Revenue Authority, totaling Sh25,213,378,” read the statement in part.

Omogo who appeared before Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki, pleaded not guilty to the bribery charges.

The KRA employee was released on a cash bail of Sh 3 million or a bond of Sh 6 million with one surety of an equivalent amount.

Nzyoki also ordered Omogo to surrender his passports to the court and to refrain from interfering with any witnesses involved in the case.

The case will be mentioned on August 8, 2024.
