‘The elders Uhuru invited at State House are our friends,’ Ruto ally says
Ruto ally Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that ‘the Kikuyu elders Uhuru Kenyatta invited at State House are pro Ruto.’
Mathira MP claimed they’re privy to discussions President Uhuru Kenyatta held with Mt Kenya elders at State House, Nairobi on March 26.
In an interview on KTN News on Tuesday, the Ruto ally stated that some elders confided in him and other Deputy President William Ruto allies after the statehouse meeting.
Uhuru was regarded by the elders as a desperate President who was hell-bent on ensuring his succession plans were carried out.
Uhuru was concerned about Mount Kenya leaders rejecting his rallying call to support Azimio La Umoja, according to Gachagua, and the elders were entrusted with persuading Ruto allies to change their minds.
“The elders told us the President was desperate and they were asked to help him dismantle the influence of the DP. One selling point from the meeting was telling that Ruto wanted to impeach him to get sympathy,”
“The people who the orders were intended for have different ideas of what he should have been discussed. He should have explained to them why the economy handed to him by President Mwai Kibaki was declining,” he disclosed.
However, he added that Uhuru’s approach will backfire because they were adamant about supporting Ruto’s candidacy.
Gachagua claimed that the impeachment allegations were fabricated in order to smear Ruto’s character.
The legislator went on to say that the elders were being exploited, and that the more open-minded ones had misgivings about Uhuru’s proposal.
‘Most of the elders are our friends and they were shocked at the level of the President’s desperation. In their own words, they stated that he has bitten more than he can chew. The whole session was a cry to help him penetrate the Mt Kenya region.
“He wants the tides to be changed with outright lies and the people are saying that they are not interested,” he said.
