UK High Commissioner ends speculation over his meeting with Former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In an interview on TV47, British High Commissioner Neil Wigan ended the speculations revolving around their meeting by revealing its details.

Wigan detailed that their conversations revolved around his peacekeeping mission, especially in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“With the former President Kenyatta, we say he has a role in mediating in DRC and that is something I have particular interest in. So we talked that as well,” Wigan stated.

He further revealed that he approached Uhuru to understand the local political landscape and homegrown solutions that can be applied to resolving them.

Wigan insisted that the talks were keen to giving other international communities the much-needed impetus to intervene in ensuring political stability.

“We have talked to the national government and opposition to try and understand what they see as challenges in attaining political stability and areas where the international community can help,” he reiterated.

His clarification comes amid speculations by some Kenyans that the envoys were seeking a handshake with the former President.

This was majorly because of Uhuru’s stance and support for Azimio la Umoja candidate Raila Odinga who had called out both UK and US diplomats for interfering with the 2022 General Elections.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta had last week hosted the UK High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan and the US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman in a space of two days.

The meetings sparked speculations on why both UK and US envoys decided to approach Uhuru close to a year after he handed over the instruments of power.
