A village in Emurua Dikir in Narok County is reeling in shock and fear after a wanted amurder suspect who had gone missing for months resurfaced and attacked his neighbour leaving him dead.

According to witnesses who spoke to the press on Saturday, the missing man had been on the police wanted list for similar crimes. It is alleged the assassin resurfaced and stabbed his neighbour, a person with a disability, 16 times in his shop killing him instantly before vanishing into the nearby thicket.

Residents who rushed to the victim’s rescue said he was stabbed 16 times to the head. Unfortunately, he narrowly escaped after the incident.

The suspect identified as Meshack Cheruiyot who had been in hiding is reported to have used a sharp knife to commit the cold-blood murder.

The cause of the attack has not yet been established. However, locals said the suspect had committed a similar offense before.

Witnesses further noted that the deceased, aged 42 years, was caught off guard while at a pool table shop. The suspect is believed to have stealthily walked into the victim’s shop before stabbing him.

“He did not see the suspect coming. He stealthily walked and stabbed the suspect so we are asking for security agents to ensure they track the main suspect who is currently at large,” one witness said.

The incident has since sparked widespread fear in the quiet village after the assailant was heard screaming about how he would lay yet another ambush on residents.

Now the family of the victim who has been long buried is demanding justice for their kin faulting security agencies for dragging investigations and failing to arrest the main suspect who is roaming free posing a security threat to locals.

Following the heinous incident, locals have expressed their fear lamenting the slow investigations into the matter.

“In this village, we are living in fear because we don’t know where he is, we don’t know what his plans are and we have heard he has a number of guys he wants to kill as well,” added another.

To the victim’s family members even though their kin has been buried they have faulted the police for laxity in investigating the incident which was reported at Emuur Dikir about 3 weeks ago.

“I want to ask our government to step in and hasten investigations, because the police in charge of the case are dragging the case, despite going there several times,” the victim’s father appealed.

The widow of the victim equally lamented and called on investigative agencies to bring justice. “I was now left with young children, we used to depend on him as the breadwinner of the family,” she said.
