World Record marathon holder Kelvin Kiptum’s wife Asenath Rotich has revealed that they were planning to have a wedding in April this year.
Speaking on Friday February 23 during Kiptum’s burial service in Elgeyo Marakwet, Asenath said God’s plans are greater.
“We have been planning for our big day to tie the knot in a colorful wedding ceremony in April 2024, but God’s plans are greater,” Rotich said while shedding tears.
Nonetheless, Kiptum’s wife said she would make the vows of love in his absence.
“I will still make my vows of love even in your rest. When your star was going to be the brightest God chose you,” she stated.
At the same time, Asenath eulogized Kiptum as a good husband and father to their children. She promised to take care of their children.

“You are the love of my life forever until we meet again, but I promise to gather my strength for the sake of our children. I hope in the spirit world you will inspire me to stand as a pillar to our children I promise to make them smile in your honour. I will make you happy all the time,” Kiptum’s wife added.
Following Jeruto’s tribute, local leaders led by the area Member of Parliament Gideon Kimaiyo called on President William Ruto and the county government to support Kiptum’s family and give the widow a job.
Kiptum died in a road accident alongside his Rwandese coach Gervais Hakizimana on February 11 along the Eldoret-Kaptagat Road.
The burial was attended by President William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi among other leaders.
World Athletics head Sebastian Coe was also in attendance.
